CHAPELLE HISTORIQUE BON-PASTEUR
Good Shepherd Historical Chapel

This chapel, constructed in 1866 following the plans of architect Charles Baillairgé and inaugurated in 1868, is an integral part of the vast ensemble of buildings of the Good Shepherd Nuns community.  In 1909, Architect François-Xavier Berlinguet made a few modifications to the chapel by extending its façade.

The interior of the chapel is remarkable, notably for its classical architecture that includes galleries supported by pillars, but also for the richness of the works of art that are found throughout the chapel.  Among the beautiful pieces, there is the main altar, the tabernacle of which dates back to the French Regime and was designed by Levasseur.  A painting of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary painted by Antoine Plamondon hangs over the altar and other paintings produced at the studios of the Good Shepherd Nuns also adorn the chapel.

The chapel, classified as an historical monument in 1975 and run by the Good Shepherd Nuns until 2001, is today managed by the Corporation Espace Bon-Pasteur. Since May 2003, this corporation has been organizing and presenting a number of religious and cultural activities.  Due to its on-going association with various artists, the corporation offers a year-round musical program for the Sunday mass.  Guided tours are also offered upon reservation.
